If your lodge has wanted to implement the Bikes for Books program in a school in your area, look for inspiration no further than Howard Lodge, No. 69 in Winterport, Maine. The Masons of Howard Lodge have finished their second year of the Bikes for Books program and have worked with the staff at the Leroy H. Smith Elementary School in Winterport. This year, the students in grades K through 4 have read over 1,400 hours as they and their teachers embraced the Bikes for Books program. Howard Lodge proudly distributed 20 bikes and helmets to the lucky winners this year.
Clearly the students and staff appreciate the generosity of the lodge as they posted a thank you note on a sign at the entrance of the school.
