“A bike can take you places, so can books”

The single fastest growing program sponsored by the Maine Masonic Charitable Foundation is the Masonic Bikes for Books program.  Many lodges around the state have adopted this program with wild success.  There is nothing more picturesque than the smile of a child with a new bicycle, especially as a reward for their efforts in reading.

This is a letter from Dr. Kevin Crowley, Principal of the Mildred L. Day School in Arundel, who’s students were the beneficiaries of 24 bicycles presented by the Masons of Arundel Lodge, No. 76.  Another 22 bicycles were presented to the students of Consolidated School in Kennebunkport.

For their efforts, Arundel Lodge received an article on Seacostonline.com as well as the following message from Dr. Crowley:

“Let me start by saying, in my 27 years in education, the joy that was apparent this afternoon at our school was equal to any I ever seen.    The children jumping for joy upon hearing their name called was forever memorable.   Andrew Burnham – grade 2 – came up to me at the end of the day to say “This was the best day of my life!”   Tru Jarvis, who speaks so softly was shouting with glee!

On behalf of the entire MLD family, please accept our sincerest thanks for the generosity the Masons have shown us.   We certainly look forward to next years event.

With appreciation,

Kevin”
